Arms Legislation Bill - guidance to make your own submission

With the help of our lawyers, we have put together everything you need to make your own submission to the Select Committee considering the Government's Arms Legislation Amendment Bill (the second round of proposed firearms law changes).

2. Write your own submission talking about how this Bill will affect you

You will find that there are issues that we haven’t covered, or haven’t been covered in the way you would like them. We strongly encourage you to submit a personalised submission if you would like to raise these issues. MPs need to understand that this Bill will fundamentally change how our community operates with no impact on safety.

To maximise our effectiveness we need you to make your own submission to the Select Committee.

We have prepared a range of resources to help you to make your own submission to the Finance and Expenditure Select Committee which is considering the Arms Legislation Amendment Bill and maximise its effectiveness.

First, our legal team at Franks Ogilvie have created this guide to making a submission.

We have also assembled a number of resources to help you with content. Please remember, don’t copy and paste the comments/wording below – otherwise, the Select Committee staff may not accept your submission and mark it down as a 'form submission'.  That means you need to put it into your own words and (ideally) provide a real-life example of how the provisions will affect you.

We've broken the full COFLO submission into the various topics.  Feel free to raise any of the points in the PDFs linked below.

A summary of the top ten concerns about the Bill from firearms lawyer, Nicholas Taylor can be downloaded by clicking here.
